Assistant Superintendent Durgin began his career with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer in 1994. In 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. During his years as a Correctional Officer he was actively involved in the Correctional Officers Union (CCOA) serving as both a President and Executive board member for over 10 years.
In 1997 he was awarded Correctional Officer of the Year.
In 2013 he was appointed to the position of Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Operations/Employee Relations. In his role as ADS, he worked on the day to day security and staffing issues and supervises over 200 uniformed staff members. He also oversees the Zone Sergeants who conduct daily and weekly security/sanitation inspections of the facility.
In 2017 he was promoted to his current position of Assistant Superintendent.
Assistant Superintendent Durgin also worked with the Human Resource Department and Peer Support Team on a variety of staff and (EAP) employee assistant program issues. He has been trained in the Reid Technique, Employees Assistance Program, and a variety of correction stress prevention programs.
