Visiting Hours and Other Policies

Inmate Visiting Hours

Inmate visiting hours are scheduled seven days a week. Schedules vary for each inmate depending on the inmate's housing assignment. Please call ahead for specific times. You must fill out a form in person to schedule a visit.

Inmates are expected to notify potential visitors of changes in their housing assignments that alter their visit schedules.

Each inmate is allowed two 1-hour visits every week. All visitors must be pre-approved. Children can visit on weekends. The jail has the right to refuse the admission of a visitor who is dressed inappropriately.

Bail Procedures/Inmate Pickup

The jail depends on the availability of a bail commissioner. Bails are conducted seven days a week until 10 p.m. The bail commissioner requires a $40 fee. Bails generally take two hours to process from the time the jail notifies the commissioner to the release of the inmate.

Please call ahead for release times or to make sure a bail commissioner has been contacted. Please call 781-329-3705 and ask for the Lobby Officer. Bailed inmates are released Monday through Saturday after 9 a.m.

Visiting Rules

We respect the rights of everyone we serve. Visiting is a privilege, and Sheriff Bellotti has developed rules of order:

  1. Visitors may be searched at any time while inside the jail.
  2. Possession of any illegal substance and or attempting to convey any type of contraband to an inmate will result in your arrest and prosecution.
  3. Tobacco and flame producing devices are prohibited. The Sheriff's facilities are smoke-free.
  4. Food is not allowed in the visiting room.
  5. Disruptive behavior by an inmate or visitor will result in the termination of the visit.
  6. Attempts to communicate with inmates from parking areas through jail windows will not be tolerated.

Inmate Property

An inmate's property is secured upon admission to the jail. Property is released only with prior notice to the property officer from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. Nothing can be exchanged for an inmate without prior arrangements with the property officer.

Telephone Calls

Incoming telephone calls are not accepted as a general rule. In an emergency, please call (781) 329-3705 and ask for the Facility Commander's Office.

Outgoing calls by inmates are allowed as often as an inmate chooses during designated recreation periods. Each housing unit has collect-call telephones for use by the inmates. There is a cost incurred by anyone who accepts these collect calls. All calls may be monitored for security reasons.

Inmate Funds

Money for inmates can be delivered Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. or mailed via U.S. Mail to the Correctional Center. Only cash, cashiers checks or bank money orders are acceptable.

Personal checks are not accepted. Money orders must be made payable to the Norfolk County Correctional Center specifying the inmate's name and housing assignment.

Inmates may spend no more than $50 a week.

Inmate Mail

The jail receives mail six days a week, Monday through Saturday. Family and friends of inmates are encouraged to send correspondence. All incoming mail is inspected for contraband and given to the inmate every day. Legal and other privileged mail is opened in the presence of the inmate.

Indigent inmates are given three postage free letters every week to communicate to family, friends and the courts. There is no limit to outgoing mail as long as the inmate has funds to pay the costs of postage.

The jail does not accept packages of any kind.

Sherrif Bellotti

From the Sheriff:

"My mission as Sheriff of Norfolk County is to reach beyond the walls of the jail into the community. The sheriff's office must be a resource to the communities it protects. That's why my office runs programs that improve the quality of life for senior citizens, youth and victims of domestic violence."
