Our Office

The Norfolk County Sheriff's Office and Correctional Center is the only jail in the country, and perhaps the world, located in the median of an interstate highway. The main building and the pre-release Dedham Alternative Center occupy 144,000 square feet on an 8.2-acre site.

This 502-bed facility contains state-of-the-art security features and operates under a jail management style called "direct supervision." The direct supervision approach is based on a behavior modification system whereby inmates are rewarded for positive behavior.

The new correctional center opened in February 1992 and cost approximately $33 million to build. The correctional center currently employs approximately 350 people.

Sherrif Bellotti

From the Sheriff:

"My mission as Sheriff of Norfolk County is to reach beyond the walls of the jail into the community. The sheriff's office must be a resource to the communities it protects. That's why my office runs programs that improve the quality of life for senior citizens, youth and victims of domestic violence."
