Additionally, Sheriff Bellotti is a member of Employees Against Domestic Violence (EADV), a nonprofit organization that educates Massachusetts employers about the impact of domestic violence. One of Sheriff Bellotti’s first priorities when he took office in 1999 was to create a Victim Services Unit at the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office. The unit assists victims with questions and concerns regarding the sentencing and the release of inmates. It also fills a gap in the corrections system by representing the Sheriff’s Office in the community on various victim issues. Sheriff Bellotti has teamed up with Verizon Wireless in the HopeLine program, which provides domestic violence victims with cell phones programmed with emergency numbers. Verizon Wireless was so impressed with the Sheriff’s efforts that it donated additional grants to be used for outreach programs by the Sheriff’s Victim Services Unit.

Sheriff Bellotti’s senior citizen safety program, known as TRIAD, continues to grow. All of Norfolk County’s 28 communities are signed onto TRIAD – a three-way agreement between senior citizens, law enforcement and support service agencies. TRIAD offers services such as the “Are You O.K.?” telephone reassurance program, File of Life emergency medical cards, the Driver Safety Program, Project Lifesaver and telemarketing fraud prevention seminars. TRIAD is run independently in each community by volunteer senior citizens who work closely with the Sheriff’s Office, local police, fire departments and councils on aging.

The Sheriff also operates the Norfolk County Community Corrections Center in Quincy. The center, which oversees the Electronic Incarceration Program, is a collaborative venture between the Courts, the Probation Department, the Parole Board and the Sheriff’s Office. The center demands the strict probation of offenders through a number of services including alcohol and drug testing, electronic monitoring, substance abuse treatment and life skills programs. The center’s proximity to Norfolk County’s busiest district court has improved communication among local law enforcement agencies.

Before taking office in 1999, Sheriff Bellotti was a three-term State Representative from the First Norfolk District, which serves Quincy and Randolph. As a state representative, he served as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources from 1994-96 and was a member of the Elder Caucus. He was selected as “Public Servant of the Year” by the Cerebral Palsy Association of Massachusetts in 1998.

Sheriff Bellotti is the recipient of numerous additional awards, including the 2007 Sons of Italy Social Justice Award; the 2006 Honorable Maurice H. Richardson Award for excellence in the community; the 2005 Project Lifesaver International “Recognition Award” for his work and dedication to senior citizens and search & rescue; the 2003 Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts (PFFM) “Special Recognition Award” for his support and concern for firefighters; the 2002 Quincy District Court “Jason Feldman Outstanding Citizen Award” for his work with youth in the community; the 2002 “Honorary Chief” designation from the Norfolk County Fire Chiefs for his support and collaborative efforts; the 2002 “Service Award” from the Norfolk County Prosecutors Association; the 2001 statewide “Community Service Award” from the Massachusetts Council on Aging for his work with senior citizens; and the 1999 “Village Hero Award” from the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

Sheriff Bellotti is a graduate of Boston College (B.A.) and Boston College High School. He is a life-long resident of Quincy, where he lives with his wife, Gayle, and their three children, Colleen, Dillon and Daniel.
