Safe School Essay Contest
Sheriff Bellotti's Office sponsors the Safe School Essay Contest two times a
year in various Norfolk County communities. The essay contest is designed for
sixth, seventh and eighth graders and focuses on the importance of keeping
schools safe from violence. The winning students are invited to a reception
with their parents and teachers, and the students also receive certificates of
achievement and U.S. Savings Bonds from the sheriff.
The purpose of the contest is to get middle school children thinking about
safety and to help them develop an awareness of safety issues and potential
dangers around them. The program also helps these students develop closer ties
to law enforcement as they prepare to enter high school and become more
independent.
