TRIAD
TRIAD is a partnership between senior citizens, law enforcement and senior
support services, such as councils on aging. Sheriff Bellotti launched TRIAD in
January 2000, bringing together these three groups to address the concerns of
senior citizens in Norfolk County.
Currently, all of Norfolk County's 28 towns and cities operate TRIAD in their
community. TRIAD is unique to each community, focusing on its specific needs
and working in conjunction with community policing initiatives.
Each community has its own SALT council (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together),
made up of volunteer senior citizens from the community, which runs the TRIAD
program for that particular community in cooperation with local agencies and
the Sheriff's fulltime TRIAD staff.
Together, the Sheriff's Office helps each TRIAD community to develop and
implement safety initiatives and crime prevention programs. The main goal is to
increase the quality of life for senior citizens through cooperation with the
local police and fire departments and council on aging.
TRIAD offers free-of-charge programs such as File of Life emergency medical cards, “Are You OK?” telephone reassurance, Emergency Beacon Flashing Lights, House Numbering
projects, Senior Citizen Surveys to identify needs and concerns, Neighborhood
Crime Watches, Crime Prevention Seminars, Telemarketing Fraud Seminars and Home
Visits.
The “Are You OK?” program is extremely effective at looking after the elderly by making daily phone calls to check on the well-being of senior citizens living alone.
The program has summoned emergency help for more than 55 people since Sheriff Bellotti introduced the program in 2001.
