The Investigations Unit currently has two full-time employees. The goal of the unit is to prevent disruptive and illegal activities inside the facility and also to resolve cases in a swift and equitable manner through the accumulation of facts that allow the administration to make informed decisions about what actions to take. Internal Affairs staff ensure that professional standards are maintained by employees of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office by conducting investigations as directed by the Special Sheriff/Superintendent. The unit also collaborates with law enforcement partners in the South Shore Street Crimes Task Force and has worked with the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office on a number of issues, including attempts to introduce contraband into the facility.
