Ten-year-old Nate Galante of Dedham saved his mother, Sarah Galante, who has multiple sclerosis and was experiencing a pulmonary embolism, by texting his father to send for help. Because of Nate’s actions, Sarah was able to get life-saving care quickly. When Nate noticed that Sarah was having trouble breathing, he immediately texted his father for help. Moments later, Sarah collapsed from oxygen deprivation. Doctors who treated her found out that she was suffering from blood clots which required open-heart surgery. She was placed in a medically-induced coma and is currently recovering in a rehabilitation center.
Sheriff Patrick McDermott praised Nate, saying “Nate’s quick thinking in crisis saved his mother and got her the care she desperately needed. Nate was able to recognize an emergency situation and knew that he needed to act quickly. His mother Sarah is alive today because of Nate’s heroism.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up for those interested in donating to help support her recovery. To donate, visit tinyurl.com/SarahGalante.
